What delivery and installation means at Taylor's
Buying furnishings is only half of the job. The other half is getting them into the room, fitted correctly and finished properly, and that is the half most often outsourced to whoever is cheapest, which is exactly where it goes wrong.
We handle it ourselves. Flooring is measured on site, the old floorcovering lifted and disposed of, the subfloor checked, the underlay and gripper supplied, the carpet, vinyl or LVT fitted and the doorways finished with matched bars. Furniture is delivered, assembled where needed and placed in the room it belongs in. Beds are built, curtains are hung, and the packaging leaves with us.
It matters most for customers who cannot, or would rather not, handle heavy items themselves; for older customers and those buying mobility seating, where the chair needs to work in its actual position; for landlords and holiday-let owners who need a property usable on a fixed date; and for anyone furnishing a whole property, where installation is included as part of the project.
Because we serve Keith, Buckie, Elgin, Huntly, Fochabers, Banff, Turriff, Dufftown, Cullen and the surrounding area from our two showrooms, deliveries are local. You are dealing with the same family firm from the showroom visit to the moment the last box goes out of the door.
What goes wrong when fitting is treated as an afterthought
A carpet fitted at the wrong tension rucks within months. A seam planned badly sits in the middle of a traffic route and shows for the life of the floor. LVT laid over an unprepared subfloor telegraphs every lump and gap beneath it. None of those faults are the product's fault, and none of them can be fixed by replacing the product.
Furniture fares no better. A pallet delivery left at the kerb or inside the front door is not a furnished room, someone still has to move a corner group upstairs and build a bed, and if it will not go through the turn on the stairs, that discovery happens after the money has been spent.
Then there is the mess. Old floorcovering, underlay, gripper, packaging and pallet wrap add up to a considerable amount of waste, and clearing it becomes your problem the moment the delivery driver leaves.
The mistakes we see most often
- Comparing a supply-only price with a supplied-and-fitted price and assuming they are the same thing.
- Arranging a third-party fitter separately, so nobody is accountable when the product and the fitting disagree.
- Booking delivery before checking access, stair turns, doorway widths and low ceilings decide what physically fits.
- Fitting new flooring over damp, uneven or unswept subfloor because the schedule is tight.
- Forgetting that uplift and disposal of the old floorcovering has to be paid for by someone.

How a delivery & professional installation job runs, step by step
- Step 1
Site measure and access check
We measure the rooms ourselves and check the practicalities at the same time, doorway widths, stair turns, thresholds and subfloor condition, so nothing surprising happens on delivery day.
- Step 2
Written quotation including fitting
The price covers the goods, underlay and accessories, uplift and disposal where needed, delivery and fitting. One figure, agreed in advance.
- Step 3
Scheduling
We agree a date and a sequence. On multi-room and whole-property work, flooring goes down before furniture arrives so the rooms complete in the right order.
- Step 4
Installation day
Old floorcovering lifted and removed, subfloor prepared, gripper and underlay laid, flooring fitted and trimmed, bars fixed at the doorways. Furniture assembled and placed, beds built, curtains hung.
- Step 5
Clear-up and check
Packaging and old materials go with us, and we walk the rooms with you before we leave so anything not right is dealt with there and then.

How professional installation is done properly
The difference between a floor that keeps its looks for years and one that tires quickly is largely in the preparation and the fitting.
Subfloor preparation
Every floorcovering takes the shape of what is underneath it. Timber boards need to be sound and level, concrete needs to be dry and free of dust, and any high spots or gaps need addressing before anything is laid over them.
This matters most with vinyl and LVT, where the finished surface is thin and unforgiving: a small lump or a board joint that has not been dealt with will show through, and will eventually wear at that point.
Underlay, gripper and tension
Underlay is not padding to be economised on. It carries the compression that would otherwise crush the carpet pile, it insulates and it deadens sound. Pairing a good carpet with the cheapest underlay is the most common false economy in the trade.
Gripper must be fixed correctly at the perimeter and the carpet stretched to the right tension. Under-tensioned carpet ripples within a season; over-tensioned carpet strains at the seams. Getting it right is a skill, and it is the reason fitting is not a DIY job.
Seams, doorways and thresholds
Seams should be planned before cutting so they fall away from sightlines and traffic routes wherever the room allows, and they should run with the light rather than across it where there is a choice.
Doorways get matched bars, fitted flat so there is no lip to catch a toe or a vacuum head. For older customers and anyone using a mobility chair or walking aid, level thresholds are a safety issue rather than a detail.
Delivering and placing furniture
Access is checked before the delivery is booked, doorway widths, stair turns, landing space and ceiling height. Corner groups and large recliners are the usual pinch points, and it is far better to know in the showroom than on the day.
Items are carried to the room they belong in, assembled where assembly is required, positioned, and checked for function. Riser recliners are set up and tested in position so the customer sees the chair working where they will actually use it.
