What Keith houses throw at flooring and furniture
Keith sits inland at the top of Strathisla, high enough and far enough from the coast to get properly cold. The housing stock is largely older stone with a newer ring around it. Between them, those two facts cause most of the problems we are called out to fix.
Cold, solid stone walls and floors
Stone holds cold, and a lot of Keith's older houses have suspended timber floors over unheated voids or solid floors laid straight onto the ground. A thin carpet over a thin underlay in those rooms feels cold underfoot no matter how high the heating is set.
We spend more time talking about underlay in Keith than almost anywhere else we cover. A better underlay adds warmth, cuts draughts through floorboard gaps, protects the carpet's pile and usually costs less than upgrading the carpet itself. It is the cheapest comfort improvement in most Keith homes.
Damp mornings and wet boots
